Guidelines and Mission Statement

The grant-making process will be subject, with few exceptions, to the following guidelines.

1 Grants will be made for the operations of organizations that provide direct services close to the need.
2 The Foundation will not make capital grants, or grants to other grant making organizations.
3 Grants will be made to organizations in Eastern and Central Massachusetts.
4 To be considered for a grant, an organization must have controls to ensure that money and services are properly distributed, and metrics to determine efficacy.
5 Multi-year grants will be considered where organizations can demonstrate a longer-term plan for their effective use. Any such awards will be reviewed annually to ensure award criteria are being met. Year-end reports will be required.
6 No annual grant will exceed 5% of the aggregate amount to be granted in any calendar year.
7 The median grant will be $15,000.
8 Organizations that have not been approved for a grant must wait three years before they reapply.

Any exceptions to these guidelines will be reviewed by the Board of Trustees, and a record kept of the reasons for granting the exception.
